Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Author Guidelines

JOLLS, a publication of the Department of French, Faculty of Humanities, Imo State University, Owerri, calls for high-quality original researches/papers from academics, professionals and scholars in the field of Social Science, Arts, Humanities and those outside them for the next edition of the journal. JOLLS is published all year round.

DETAILS ABOUT MANUSCRIPT SUBMISSION
1. Should be typed 1.5 spaced, not exceeding 15 pages with 1-inch margin all through (Left, Right, Top and Bottom) using 12 point Times New Roman.
2. Should have a cover page indicating the title of the paper, author(s) details including affiliation, email address and telephone.
3. The title of the paper, and not the name of the author, should appear on the first text page of the paper as a mark of identification of the paper.
4. The first text page of the paper should have an abstract not exceeding 250 words.
5. All tables, diagrams, regression results, etc. should be numbered sequentially and in the order in which they are referred to in the text. All diagrams must be provided in a form suitable for reproduction.
6. The submission should be made in Ms Word for easy editing.
7. Manuscripts may be submitted in English, French, or any other foreign or indigenous language.

SUBMISSION AND REVIEW PROCEDURE

An electronic copy of the manuscript should be sent by e-mail to: the Editor-in- Chief (editor@jolls.com.ng).  Upon receipt, the editor will usually acknowledge within one week. Thereafter the paper will undergo “blind peer” reviewers. The review process may last up to one month or more before final decisions can be made based on the reviewer’s comments.

MANIPULATION OF CITATION/FALSIFICATION OF DATA

Any evidence of citation manipulation or data falsification by authors will result in the rejection of the manuscript at any stage of the editorial process. Subsequently, the Editors will cease all further correspondence with the authors and/or their representatives.

POLICY ON USE OF GENERATIVE ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (GENAI)

To ensure ethical standards in the use of GenAI, the following guidelines must be strictly adhered to. Please note that manuscripts failing to comply with these guidelines may be rejected by the Editors without further correspondence: Authors are required to disclose any use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) in the preparation of their manuscripts in order to ensure transparency and foster trust among authors, readers, reviewers, and editors. A formal statement acknowledging such use shall be included in the published article. GenAI tools may be employed solely to enhance linguistic clarity and readability or to assist in the articulation of research designs and methodological data, provided such contributions are explicitly acknowledged and verifiable.

Under no circumstances shall GenAI be credited as an author or co-author, nor can it be held responsible for the content of the work. The scientific insights, conclusions, and recommendations presented in the manuscript must remain entirely those of the authors, who retain full responsibility and accountability for the integrity and accuracy of the work.

Furthermore, the generation or modification of images or figures using GenAI is strictly prohibited. Reviewers are also expressly forbidden, on ethical grounds, from uploading manuscripts or peer review reports into GenAI tools. These provisions are essential to uphold academic integrity and to ensure the ethical use of GenAI in scholarly research and publication.

MULTIPLE AUTHORSHIP

 Manuscripts with single or multiple authors are welcome. In cases of multiple authorship, the first author listed shall be considered the lead and corresponding author, unless otherwise specified.

GRIEVANCE

 JOLLS is under no obligation to publish any manuscript submitted to it. Publication decisions are made solely at the discretion of the Editors. It is understood that all manuscripts submitted to JOLLS are original and have not been submitted simultaneously to any other journal for publication or consideration. Authors with concerns or grievances may raise them during the editorial process. The Managing Editor reserves the right to terminate the editorial process, close the grievance, and communicate the decision to the complainant accordingly. By agreeing to publish in JOLLS, authors relinquish their copyright to the journal and agree not to initiate any legal action against it. The decision of the Editors regarding the acceptance or rejection of a manuscript, before, during, or after the editorial process, is final. Any evidence of unethical practices, as determined by the Editors, will lead to immediate rejection of the manuscript, and no appeals will be entertained.

POST-PUBLICATION COMMENTARY

The Editors welcome methodical and substantive critiques or debates on published articles. Such commentaries may be considered for publication at the Editors’ discretion.

ACCESS TO JOLLS

Articles are published on JOLLS website under Open access. All articles are downloadable. Libraries and academic communities can subscribe to JOLLS for free.

ADVERTISEMENT POLICY

International Journal of Arts, Languages, Linguistics, and Literary Studies (JOLLS) is a publication of the Department of French, Faculty of Humanities, Imo State University, Owerri. It calls for high-quality original research/papers from academics, professionals, and scholars in the fields of Arts, Humanities and those outside them that relate to the thematic of the journal.

Authors of accepted manuscripts shall be communicated and shall be asked to pay a token fee of N35,000 (Assessment fee N8000. Insertion fee: N27,000. However, any author based outside Nigeria, or whose institutional affiliation is located outside the country, shall be required to pay an article processing fee of $100 USD.
